Craniosacral Therapy (CST)
Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on technique I use to support the body's nervous system and overall wellbeing. It works by addressing restrictions in the craniosacral system—the membranes and fluid that surround the brain and spinal cord. Using subtle, light-touch techniques (often with less pressure than you'd use to check the ripeness of a peach), I apply gentle holds at points such as the skull and sacrum to release tension and promote balance throughout the body.
By helping to restore the natural flow of cerebrospinal fluid, CST supports the body’s ability to self-regulate, reduce pain, and heal. Whether used on its own or as part of a broader treatment plan, CST can be an effective option for individuals of all ages—from newborns to adults.
CST for Infants and Children
Infants and young children go through rapid changes and development, which can place stress on their craniosacral and nervous systems, especially after birth. CST offers a gentle and effective approach to address those changes and support optimal growth and function.
CST may benefit infants and children who are experiencing:
Plagiocephaly (flat or uneven head shape)
Torticollis (tightness on one side of the neck)
Feeding and latching difficulties
Sleep disturbances
Digestive discomfort or fussiness
Asymmetrical facial features or movement patterns
Support before and after tongue, lip, or cheek tie revisions
Motor coordination or milestone delays
Birth trauma recovery
I often combine CST with other gentle therapies during your child’s appointment to support their nervous system, comfort, and development. The experience is calming, and many babies even fall asleep during treatment.
CST for Adults
While CST is commonly associated with pediatric care, it can also be incredibly effective for adults—particularly those living with chronic pain, stress, trauma, or nervous system dysregulation. In my practice, I often integrate CST into care for individuals seeking gentle but powerful support for:
Headaches and migraines
TMJ dysfunction
Neck, shoulder, and back tension
Postpartum recovery
Pelvic floor dysfunction
Nervous system regulation
Emotional stress, anxiety, or trauma recovery
Sleep disturbances
Chronic pain or fatigue syndromes
CST can be especially beneficial during the postpartum period as it helps the body recalibrate after pregnancy and birth—emotionally, physically, and neurologically.
Whether you're bringing in your newborn or seeking support for your own healing journey, CST offers a safe, evidence-informed, and body-affirming approach to care. I’d be happy to discuss whether this therapy might be a good fit for you or your family.
