Meet Me
Dr. Joanna Galasso
(She/Her/Hers)
Originally from Alberta, Dr. Joanna Galasso began her academic journey at the University of Calgary, earning her Bachelor or Science degree and later completing her Bachelor of Social Work. She also conducted research in toxicology at the University of Saskatchewan, focusing on the ways biological, chemical, and physical hazards impact human health. During this time, she became increasingly drawn to complementary medicine as part of a holistic approach to wellness, which led her to pursue her Doctor of Chiropractic at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto, graduating in 2011.
Dr. Galasso has over a decade of experience working with individuals across the lifespan, including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and expectant parents, supporting their health and wellbeing through all stages of life. She holds advanced training in prenatal and paediatric chiropractic care and maintains certification in the Webster Technique through the International Chiropractic Paediatric Association, ensuring safe and evidence-informed care for pregnant patients. She is also currently the only chiropractor in Alberta certified in the ROST technique, a specific therapy for treating symphysis pubis dysfunction and pelvic girdle pain.
In addition to her chiropractic work, Dr. Galasso is a DONA-trained birth doula and studied midwifery at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University). She has supported clients during pregnancy, labour, and postpartum, offering care that blends clinical knowledge with emotional support. She is also a certified sexual health educator and prenatal/postnatal yoga instructor, further expanding her ability to offer whole-person care.
Currently based in Sherwood Park, Alberta, Dr. Galasso offers body-affirming, inclusive, and trauma-informed chiropractic care. Her practice is rooted in a weight-neutral approach that prioritizes patient autonomy, informed consent, and individualized care plans. Being a larger-bodied person, she understands first hand that patients in various body sizes often face stigma in healthcare and is committed to ensuring her practice is a respectful and affirming space. The clinic environment is designed to support comfort and accessibility for all body types, pregnancy stages, and mobility needs, with adjustable tables, supportive positioning, and low-force adjusting options such as Activator and drop-table techniques. Her treatments include a variety of soft tissue therapies (Graston® Technique, Myofascial Cupping), therapeutic taping (KinesioTaping®), individualized rehabilitation exercises, and prescription orthotics.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Galasso is a research collaborator with the Inuit Perinatal Health Hub at the University of Calgary, where she supports initiatives to improve perinatal health equity and access for Inuit families across Canada. Her research and practice are informed by a commitment to Indigenous sovereignty, culturally safe care, and the co-creation of health systems that centre the voices and priorities of communities.
Whether you're seeking support during pregnancy, postpartum recovery, or simply want care from a provider who respects your lived experience, Dr. Galasso works collaboratively with you, and your healthcare team, to support your goals. She brings deep listening, cultural humility, and evidence-informed care to every visit, with a focus on restoring function, reducing pain, and supporting whole-person wellness.
